PHOTOGRAPHS THAT SIGNIFY
A SENSE OF HOME
Arabic shawarma restaurants and skyscrapers always remind me of Dubai, which was my home for almost a decade. Growing up in a concrete jungle with lots of delicious middle eastern food around every corner was my norm. So seeing it here in Rotterdam gives me a sense of familiarity.
I am originally from the Philippines and spent my childhood there. As a kid, I would always buy this from the local shopkeeper in our street for a few cents. Every time I see it, it brings back fond memories and makes me nostalgic.

THE FINAL DESIGN

"THE SEAT LOCKER"

PRACTICE PRESENTATION:

pptx
WHAT AM I?

I’m the seat locker, my function is to keep your belongings safe and locked. So that your
arms, legs, and mind can be free from worrying about your bags.

FOR WHAT PURPOSE AM I DESIGNED FOR?

I am designed to securely keep your bags locked away during the trip so you can just sit
comfortably instead of keeping any of your belongings on your lap. That way you feel safer,
at ease and have a more pleasant experience while traveling via public transport services.

WHAT PLACE AM I DESIGNED FOR?

I am designed for the metro, tram, and bus. You will be able to conveniently locate me
under your seat. I take up the free space underneath the seats which would otherwise be
left unused. So I sit under the seat and keep your bags safe.

HOW AM I ACTIVATED?

You have to use your OV chip cart to unlock me and then you can store your belongings
inside. No one else can unlock me but you so rest assured only you will have access to your
belongings. So even if you forget your bags, they will be there safe with me, until you have
access to me again.

A MANIFESTO THAT WE COLLABORATIVELY MADE IN THE SECOND CLASS

Don’t ask me where I’m from, ask me where I’m local. Ambiguity is not favored in the current power structure, especially when talking about race, we never hear a non-binary discourse. For instance, what does it mean to not feel any sense of belonging anywhere? Or to have a mixed identity?

Instead of bureaucratically looking at individuals, we want to carefully consider the experiences of each person and recognize the unique value of these experiences, without dismissing the sense of belonging to a cultural group, but without feeling constrained in it.
